Charlottesville, VA (PRWEB) May 7, 2009 – New for 2009, the LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph is pleased to announce that an outdoor exhibition of images from acclaimed book “As I Was Dying” by celebrated Magnum photographer Paolo Pellegrin’s will be on display June 11-13 in Charlottesville, VA.
LOOK3 co-Executive Director Michael “Nick” Nichols says about Paolo, “He is one of the most significant photographers of this decade. More importantly, he makes images that matter serving far more than himself, putting a face on what we fear and do not understand.”
More than just historical documentation, Pellegrin’s photographs are blurred, dark, and broken in a way that is deliberately composed, reflecting the emotional impact of the situation he is a witnessing. “I see photography as a bridge between the subject and the viewer – like a hand that comes out, or the beginning of a conversation. I like leaving something unsaid so that the viewer can fill in the missing piece.”
Born in Rome in 1964. Paolo Pellegrin joined Magnum Photos in 2001 and has been a Newsweek contract photographer since 2000. He has won numerous awards including eight World Press Photos, a Leica Medal of Excellence, the Robert Capa Gold Medal, the Olivier Rebot Award and the Hansel-Meith Preis.
This new LOOK3 outdoor exhibit is supported by Metabolic Studio, a direct charitable activity of the Annenberg Foundation under the direction of Artist and Trustee Lauren Bon.
The LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph is a 3-day celebration of photography in Charlottesville, VA with exhibitions, screenings, presentations, interviews and outdoor projections. Festival passes are on sale at http://www.look3.org.
